A recent investigation conducted by the marine animal welfare group Mundo Azul shows that Peruvian fisherman are slaughtering dolphins for shark bait, using harpoons and clubs. Killing dolphins is illegal in the South American country, but it is difficult to enforce the law due to the fisherman being far from authorties at sea. Based on the size of the fleet and interviews with fishermen, Mundo Azul’s president, Stefan Austermuhle, estimates that approximately 15,000 dolphins are killed per year for bait and human food. “All I could do was continue recording the event in the hope that making the world aware of this tragedy can somehow bring an end to it,” says Austermuhle on BlueVoice’s website,
