Philadelphia Passes Meatless Monday Resolution

Due to the effort of animal-welfare organization The Humane League, the City Council of Philadelphia has passed a resolution in support of Meatless Mondays to encourage healthy eating habits and reduce the city’s environmental footprint. “We can combat the epidemic of obesity, improve long-term health outcomes, and potentially reduce the impact of livestock on global warming through this one, simple effort, “ says Councilman Bill Green. “And we can make our moms happy by eating our veggies and trying new things—a win win win!” Earlier this month, Meatless Mondays celebrated its 10-year anniversary, and since its inception at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2003, the campaign has experienced tremendous success, being adopted by numerous school districts and touted by celebrities and communities alike.
