Carla Spiropulo began her vegan snack venture in the comfort of her kitchen, making treats for her children that were devoid of artificial ingredients. After some initial research and experimentation, Spiropulo came up with a cruelty-free, raw recipe that would become Nelly’s Truffle Bars, named after her mother who passed away in 1991. Spiropulo approached her local Whole Foods Market with her truffle bars and the store agreed to sell them. Now, Nelly’s is expanding as more stores place orders, and she has started a Kickstarter fundraising campaign so she can upgrade her kitchen equipment and purchase a machine to wrap and label her truffles. The bars, which are also non-GMO, fair trade, and organic, come in flavors such as Goji Berry, Chewy Chocolate Chip, Banana Oatmeal, and Double Chocolate. Donors who pledge $25 or more will receive four bars, while those who pledge $50 will receive 10.
