Subway joins the growing list of fast food chains that are adding meat-free items to their menus, as it now offers a falafel sandwich at its Washington DC locations. The sandwich chain tested the falafel in Chicago and Canada earlier this year, and in 2012 it introduced three other vegan options at its DC stores, including a Riblet sandwich. Washington Post food writer Lavanya Ramanathan did not give Subway’s falafel a favorable review, calling the patties “bone dry.” She suggested that if customers are looking for a falafel fix, they go to the restaurants in the nation’s capital that specialize in the dish, rather than spending $7 on Subway’s rendition.
