Cookbook author Isa Chandra Moskowitz wrote an article for CNN’s Eatocracy blog discussing the diet-disputes that omni and veggie family members have on Thanksgiving. The cruelty-free cookbook author plays the role of diplomat, appealing to the meat and dairy crowd, noting that Thanksgiving’s greatest tradition is not turkey (historians don’t know if turkey was served at the first Thanksgiving meal) but togetherness, in which loved ones congregate to be in one another’s company regardless of their dietary preferences. Moskowitz writes that serving vegan dishes is beneficial for meat-eaters as well—it may expand one’s culinary horizons and is beneficial for the environment. She also preaches tolerance on both side of the table and advises vegans to take their relatives’ chiding as a sign of love, not as an annoyance.
