Portland, Austin, and New York may be vegan meccas, but unlikely metropolises across the country are developing their own burgeoning veg scenes, such as Dallas, which has a slew of cruelty-free restaurants, brunch spots, and bar menus, along with a soft-serve ice cream location. Mercy For Animals has published an online guide for growing a vegan community in a meat-centric city using Dallas’ rise to plant-based prominence as a blueprint. MFA recommends establishing a local vegan website to serve as a directory for events and food, as well as planning a monthly vegan drinks night, putting on an annual veggie fair, and conducting restaurant outreach, where patrons request that local restaurants start serving meatless dishes. These events unite vegans, spread consumer awareness, and introduce omni-diners to cruelty-free alternatives.
