A recent study has revealed a correlation between increased nut consumption and longer life expectancy. During the research, 120,000 people were analyzed for 30 years, and the results, which were published in the New England Journal of Medicine, found that those who ate nuts once per week were 11 percent less likely to die than those who did not eat nuts, while those who ate nuts every day were 20 percent less likely to die than those who abstained. Various lifestyle factors such as smoking and weight may have impacted the data, but nuts’ ability to lower cholesterol and inflammation, and promote insulin resistance is believed to have played a role in bolstering participants’ health for increased life expectancy. Medical experts did note that further research was required to conclude nuts’ ability to promote longevity.
