The Guardian recently posted an article online detailing the decline of meat consumption in the US. The news source references the increasing popularity of vegetarian options at major food retailers such as Chipotle, Starbucks, Subway, and Safeway, as well as the rise of faux alternatives such as Beyond Meat. If US culture currents can be reflected by those in the limelight, cruelty-free cuisine is an increasing trend—celebrities such as Jay-Z and Oprah Winfrey have noted their plant-based proclivities, while religious and political leaders such as Pastor Rick Warren (and 15,000 of his congregation members) along with Bill Clinton and Al Gore all practice veg diets. Commerce kingpins can also serve as societal weathervanes, notes The Guardian, and some of America’s business leaders, such as former Coca-Cola CEO Neville Isdell and Levi Strauss CEO Chip Bergh, are vegan as well.
