A recent study published in the British Journal of Health Psychology found a link between fruit and vegetable consumption and positive mental attitude. During the research, investigators analyzed 21 days of dietary data from 281 New Zealanders who were between 18 to 25 years old. With increased fruit and vegetable consumption, the participants experienced increased levels of calmness, happiness, and energy. The study was conducted in order to build off previous research that showed links between negative emotions and unhealthy diets rich in sugar and fats. This is not the first time a connection between eating plants and positive mental health has been found. According to the Mental Health Foundation, nearly two-thirds of people who do not report suffering from daily mental health issues also have a daily diet of fruit and vegetables.
