Illinois Rep. Opposes Captive Hunting Facilities

A new Illinois bill has been introduced that will prohibit additional native-mammal captive hunting facilities from opening in the state, reports the Humane Society of the United States. Captive hunting has faced opposition by animal-welfare advocates and hunters because it eliminates any chance of the animal’s survival. The hunted mammals are confined in a fenced-in area and people pay to shoot them, guaranteed that they will walk out with a trophy. A recent survey from Mason-Dixon Polling and Research, Inc. revealed that a majority of Illinois residents finds captive hunting “unsporting” and would support the bill.
