New Research Links Processed Meat to Early Death

An international study has found a correlation between consuming bacon and sausage and an increased likelihood of premature death.

A recent study followed more than 450,000 adults from 10 countries and found that those who consumed 5.5 ounces or more of processed meats every day were 44 percent more likely to die over the course of the research than those who ate little or no meats. The study reports that processed meats such as bacon and sausage are especially bad for health due to their high amount of cholesterol, saturated fatty acids, and carcinogens. These findings coincide with another health study published earlier this year that found that people who consume Southern foods like fried chicken and bacon six times per week are 41 percent more likely to suffer a stroke.
