Arrest Made in Major European Horse Meat Scandal

Last week, Dutch police arrested a man who served as the director of a large-scale wholesale meat company at the center of this year’s ongoing horse-meat exposé. Although Dutch privacy laws do not require the man—who is under accusations of fraud—to be identified to the public, local reports suspect that the person in question is Willy Selted, whose North Brabant-based beef company was at the heart of a massive beef recall after purchasing 300 tons of horse meat and reselling it as “beef.” Although the horse meat’s source and distribution has not been fully revealed, traces of horse meat have been found in products across Europe, and millions of items have been pulled from store shelves as a result.
