Associated Press: Mainstream Embraces Veg Cooking
Meat-free cuisine has garnered mainstream acceptance, according to the Associated Press’s Michele Kayal.
May 6, 2013
Associated Press writer Michele Kayal recently reported that veg cooking is no longer a fringe movement. She recalls the days when the word “vegetarian” conjured up images of Birkenstocks and lentil loafs, but those stereotypes, she says, no longer apply, as the meat-free movement has grown to include everyone from big-name celebrities to esteemed chefs. Kayal lists ethnic cuisine trends, increasing health awareness, and star vegetables such as kale as factors that have helped vegetarian cooking gain popularity among the mainstream. Other notable outlets such as the Today show also cover compassionate living; Today recently spotlighted Beyond Meat’s faux chicken and offered veg-friendly Earth Day advice.
