In a recent column in the Wellness section of The Washington Post, Casey Seidenberg––co-founder of a nutrition education organization––addresses the growing number of veg-curious Americans, including younger generations. In the piece, Seidenberg offers advice for parents whose children express interest in forgoing meat, and cites the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics statement that a vegetarian diet––when followed properly––is suitable for all ages. She encourages parents to modify family dishes by substituting vegetables for meat and picking up vegetarian cookbooks for kids. “Don’t transform this newfound interest in vegetarianism into a battle … take this opportunity to set an example of how to respect other people’s choices, especially if they are different from your own,” she writes.
