Two-term president, Bill Clinton’s decision to switch to a vegan diet was recently highlighted by the health resource group AARP in its magazine’s August/September issue. Clinton, who had undergone a quadruple bypass surgery in 2004, reports that he gave up animal products to bolster his failing health so he would be able to spend more time with his loved ones. “I wanted to live to be a grandfather,” Clinton told AARP. “So I decided to pick the diet that I thought would maximize my chances of long-term survival.” The former president notes that his daily meals consist of simple whole foods dishes such as almond milk and fresh berry smoothies, green salads, hummus and raw vegetables, along with the occasional veggie burger.
