Ken Lerer, co-founder of The Huffington Post and Chairman of Buzzfeed, is teaming up with former Salon editor-in-chief Kerry Lauerman to launch an animal-related website, dodo.com. The upcoming media venture will be a blend of lighter stories as well as more investigative content that focuses on the burgeoning issues of human and animal interaction. While the website will not have a political agenda, Lerer notes that the project was inspired by the public’s increased engagement with animal-related content in major media outlets. “Look at the front of The New York Times—they have a significant animal story on the front page every week,” notes Lerer on techcrunch.com. “It’s our plan to launch a site to try to own that topic.”
