Earlier this week, Boston’s newest cruelty-free eatery Root started serving its whole-foods fare to the general public. The 20-seat restaurant is located in an Allston storefront that was once home to vegan pizzeria Peace O’ Pie. Root offers plant-based entrées and juices made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients. While the entire menu is veg-friendly, the restaurant’s owners aim to cater to foodies of all dietary persuasions. “The premise is … foods that are familiar to anyone whether they’re an omnivore or vegetarian or vegan,” co-owner Deena Jalal told eater.com. “We’re trying to showcase the natural amazingness and not involve any sort of processed or manufactured or overproduced foods at all.” Jalal and her husband also own nearby dairy-free ice cream parlor FoMu.
