A recent article featured on Runner’s World magazine’s website further dispels the myth that athletes cannot perform well on a plant-based diet. The publication cites the research from Dilip Ghosh, the director of Nutriconnect in Sydney, Australia, who analyzed a series of studies and concluded that one can get all the necessary nutrients by engaging in healthful meat-free eating regimen. “Vegetarian athletes can meet their dietary needs from predominantly or exclusively plant-based sources when a variety of these foods are consumed daily and energy intake is adequate,” noted Ghosh during a Institute of Food Technologists’ conference in Chicago earlier this year. He also referenced the success of Runner’s World Chief Running Officer Bart Yasso and ultrarunner Scott Jurek.
