The documentary Blackfish has received notable reviews from mainstream media outlets including Rolling Stone, The Los Angeles Times, and New York Magazine for its apt portrayal of the psychological toll that animal entertainment takes on aquatic animals and the industry’s attempt to cover it up. The CNN documentary, which tells the story of a Sea World orca named Tilikum who killed his trainer in 2010, has been referred to as a “gripping mindbender,” said to contain “sights and sounds that are stuff of nightmares.” Blackfish has garnered a 97 percent approval rating from Rotten Tomatoes along with a “Critics’ Pick” from The New York Times’ film reviewers.
