Jay Rayner, an outspoken omnivore and contributor for The Guardian has the joined growing number of mainstream media players who advocate for reduced meat consumption. In a recent article, Rayner noted the unsustainable agriculture practices of the animal industry and how factory farms contribute disproportionate amounts of methane and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, as well as utilize precious food resources that could be allocated toward stopping world hunger. “We need to reduce our meat consumption substantially, probably by half,” says the restaurant critic. “Meat-free Mondays have arrived in the Rayner household.
