Another world athletic world record may have been set last Sunday by a vegan, when powerlifter Patrik Baboumian carried a yoke that weighed 550 kilograms, or approximately 1212 pounds, nearly 33 feet at the Vegetarian Food Festival in Toronto. According to The Toronto Star, the German-raised Baboumian went vegetarian in 2006 and switched to veganism in 2011. “I just realized that if it’s really compassion that drives you, maybe it’s not enough just to stop eating animals but you maybe should boycott the whole animal industry,” said Baboumian, a self-proclaimed animal lover. “So actually you should go one step further and become vegan.” The Canadian news source reported that as the cruelty-free German stepped his way to the record, he yelled “Vegan power.”
