Food Network host and culinary aficionado Alton Brown recently wrote about his visit to the Beyond Meat Factory for Wired, and expounded on how the mock chicken brand could fit into Americans’ diets. While Brown is a full-fledged omnivore, he noted that replacing a portion of one’s carnivorous proclivities with plant-based eating habits may be a more sustainable and more humane way of getting sustenance. Brown and his team put Beyond Meat to the test in the kitchen, and he found that the product would work well in a variety of dishes such as tacos, stir-fries, and breakfast hash. “They’re convenient and versatile, deliver quality protein with no cholesterol or saturated fat, and have a long shelf life,” writes Brown about Beyond Meat. “What’s more, I suspect the Chicken-Free Strips could replace chicken in at least 30 percent of the existing chicken recipes floating around out there.”
