News anchor and author Jane Velez-Mitchell, recently wrote a piece for CNN about why Americans should keep meat off their dinner plates. Velez-Mitchell notes the abhorrent abuse undercover investigations have revealed in factory farms and how more than 99 percent of all meat comes from the industrial horror houses. She goes on to reference America’s worsening health epidemic in which meat is a culprit in the development of chronic illnesses such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and obesity. Velez-Mitchell also writes about the global implications of excessive meat consumption, and how it’s negatively impacting the environment and playing a hand in world hunger by diverting food away from starving populations. “Now, it’s time for the rest of us to wake up and vote with our shopping carts,” she writes. “American taxpayers and consumers are being exploited right along with the animals.”
