A survey conducted by research consulting agency Demoskop, revealed that 10 percent of people in Sweden currently follow a meat-free diet, which is a 4 percent increase over the last five years. The research, which was commissioned by activist group Animal Rights Sweden, took place in February and March of this year, and queried 1,000 people who were 15 years old and older. The results also showed that the age demographics with the highest population of vegetarians and vegans were between 15 and 34 years old, and the major Swedish cities Skåne and Stockholm had the highest percentage of cruelty-free residents. The future of Sweden’s vegetarian scene looks promising as well: 37 percent of non-veg respondents noted that they would be interested in trying vegetarian products—a 5 percent increase from when the survey was given in 2009.
