A recent investigation by animal-activist group Mercy For Animals revealed the atrocious conditions turkeys are subjected to on Butterball farms. Undercover footage of Butterball factories shows baby turkeys on the cold assembly lines, sometimes getting stuck and mangled in the machinery and carelessly thrown about by workers. The injured baby birds are tossed into a pit and ground up alive, while the ones who live go to factory farms that have past histories of abusive workers and unsanitary living conditions. Numerous celebrities who saw the MFA footage responded with anger and criticism on Twitter: “This is sad,” wrote Jenna Dewan Tatum. “Tell @butterball to stop torturing baby turkeys!” “This is infuriating,” wrote House of Cards star Kate Mara. Other celebrities who spoke out on Twitter against the Butterball abuse and torture include No Doubt bassist Tony Kanal, actress Emily Deschanel and musician Natalie Maines.
