Results from a British study published in the journal Climatic Change reveals how indulging in a vegan diet can help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat global warming. During the research, scientists analyzed the diets and dietary greenhouse gas emissions of of 2,041 vegans, 15,751 vegetarians, 8,123 fish-eaters, and 29,589 meat-eaters, all of who were between the ages of 20 and 79 years old. The results showed that the participants who were vegan had dietary greenhouse gas emission levels that were approximately half that of those who ate meat, and the study authors noted that cutting down on animal-product consumption could benefit the environment, particularly by reducing the amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere. “It is likely that reductions in meat consumption would lead to reductions in dietary GHG emissions,” wrote the authors in Climatic Change.
