While debate over the health and environmental consequences of food made with genetically modified organisms (GMOs) continues to rage, fast-casual chain Chipotle Mexican Grill has taken a “better safe than sorry” stance by using only 100-percent GMO-free ingredients in all of its US restaurants. The move follows a trend the eatery started in 2013 when it became the first national restaurant chain to voluntarily disclose the gentically modified ingredients used in its food and pledged to phase GMO ingredients out of its menu. Now Chipotle customers can enjoy Sofritas burritos that are not only vegan, but totally free of GMOs as well.
