Finland’s army will offer weekly vegan meals to all of its soldiers in response to the health concerns around meat consumption and its impact on climate change. Leijona Catering, a meal service provider for the army, will offer menu items from meatless brand Quorn. Major Eija Pulkki of the Defence Forces logistics center explained that while meat-free meals will be more expensive for the army, the organization decided that reducing its environmental footprint was more important. In recognizing the impacts of meat production and consumption, the army is planning to further shift toward plant-based meals by increasing the amount of vegetables it serves moving forward.
