On Wednesday night, a new episode of South Park dubbed ”Whale Whores” poked fun at the Japanese whaling controversy. After character Stan Marsh sees the Japanese attack dolphins at the Denver Aquarium, he discovers the reality show Whale Wars and decides to volunteer with the Sea Shepherd crew. Japanese whalers harpoon Captain Paul Watson on Stan’s first day, and in retaliation he blows up the enemy ship. Stan is made captain, and the popularity of Whale Wars skyrockets—reviews clamor that “things actually happen now!” In true South Park style, everything from Japanese whaling to American factory farming is critiqued and left up for debate by the end of the episode.
