Whole Foods, the Texas-based grocer known for its natural and organic products, announced this week that they have bought 776 million kilowatt hours in renewable energy credits from wind farms, which offsets 100 percent of their electricity use in North America. It is the largest purchase of renewable energy credits to date from a US retailer. To put it into perspective, this purchase is equivalent to taking 72,000 cars off the road for one year, or planting 3.6 million trees. The company says they are committed to connecting with the environmental concerns of their customers and also plan to triple the number of its stores that use solar panels for energy.
