Baking for Haiti Relief
The devastating earthquake in Haiti inspires vegans across the country to raise money for relief efforts.
January 14, 2010
Across the US, vegans are holding bake sales to raise funds for Haiti, which was devastated late Tuesday afternoon by the largest earthquake to occur in the country in 200 years. The quake registered a 7.0 magnitude, and its epicenter was just south of Port-au-Prince, the country’s capital, resulting in widespread destruction. Global government aid agencies are marshalling relief teams and search-and-rescue groups to respond swiftly to the crisis. In the US, vegans are rallying to contribute by holding bake sales in New York, Portland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. In Chicago, Soul Vegetarian restaurant is organizing drop-offs for donations, including non-perishable vegan and vegetarian food items.
