On Monday, Mother Jones Associate Editor Kiera Butler published an online column titled “Death by Hamburger?” exploring the risks of eating meat. Butler cites a litany of research that reveals serious health risks attached to eating meat, including a recent study by UK scientists that shows a correlation between meat consumption and cancer. The article states that servings of meat have grown to unhealthy proportions, and it encourages people to reduce meat consumption for better health. Butler also cites a study that warns against eating processed meats due to high sodium levels, and ultimately recommends eating more meat-free meals. In the introduction, Butler reveals an in-depth feature on eating meat will appear in Mother Jones’ July/August 2010 issue.
