Starbucks to Start Juicing

In a $30 million cash deal, Starbucks has acquired a juicing company to create a juice-centered franchise.

Starbucks’ customers will soon have a healthy new option at the ubiquitous café—the company has just announced its acquisition of Evolution Fresh, Inc., a juice company. Unlike many other modern juiceries, Evolution Fresh presses raw fruits and vegetables for its healthful beverages, using technology to pasteurize them without the use of nutrient- and flavor-destroying heat. A Starbucks spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal that the coffee company will open new retail locations focused on juice and health food next year. Evolution Fresh currently offers citrus, melon, and pomegranate juices, in addition to other beverages, in West Coast grocery stores.
