The Oxford component of the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition has released data showing that people who consume a vegan diet have a 40 percent lower risk of cataracts than meat-eaters. A cataract is a cloudiness in the lens of the eye, which can lead to vision loss and, if untreated, blindness. As age-related cataracts are a major cause of poor health, the study specifically collected data from men and women older than 40 years old. Results concluded that there is a strong correlation between diet and cataract risk, with progressive decrease of risk from high meat-eaters to vegans.
