Popular news blog The Huffington Post recently reported that families are more likely to favor a dish if it contains vegetables than without. Cornell University researcher Brian Wansink, along with his research team, observed a group of 500 mothers with children younger than 18 living at home. After assessing whether vegetables are incorporated in the mothers’ daily meals made for the family and asking other questions pertaining to vegetable intake, Wansink and his team found that children responded positively to vegetables overall. Some of the words used to describe dishes containing vegetables from the study included “complete,” “loving,” and “tasty.” Wansink revealed his hope that the study’s findings will inspire more Americans to incorporate more produce into their diets; only 23 percent of American meals currently include produce, according to Wansink.
