Arby’s is the most recent quick-service food chain to remove gestation-crate pork from its supply chain. After Subway, Arby’s is the second largest fast food sandwich shop and currently has more than 3,500 stores. Arby’s website states that it intends to only work with suppliers with plans to phase out gestation crates on sow farms and has high hopes to improve its animal-welfare commitments. Arby’s joins Wendy’s, Oscar Mayer, Burger King, McDonald’s, Costco, and many more in announcing its intentions of moving away from the cruel crates. Currently, nine states in the US have outlawed gestation crates for pregnant pigs.
