Lush Cosmetics, in partnership with Ethical Consumer, has launched The Lush Prize to “Stamp Out Animal Testing”—rewarding innovators in various fields who are working to end animal testing. The prize is £250,000 (more than $400,000 US), and is awarded in the areas of science, training, lobbying, public awareness, and young researcher to groups or individuals from around the world. Some of the 2012 winners include Humane Society International for its lobbying work on removing animal tests from the European Union’s non-food pesticide regulations, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals for its research and lobbying efforts to end animal testing in India, and Decipher Films for its film Maximum Tolerated Dose, which exposes the horrors of animal testing. Similarly, The Pollination Project recently announced its plans to award $1,000 grants to change-makers every day over the next year.
