Mercy For Animals Canada, sister organization to the US nonprofit Mercy For Animals, just released undercover footage of harrowing animal abuse at pig farm in Arborg, Manitoba, owned by Puratone, one of the country’s largest pork producers. The footage, which has been posted online, was also released to Canadian television network CTV’s investigative show W5, which aired the footage on December 8. The video exposes pregnant pigs suffering from large open wounds and pressure sores from rubbing against the bars and being unable to turn around in confining metal gestation crates; workers ripping and cutting out the testicles of fully conscious baby piglets without the use of painkillers; and other baby piglets being slammed to the ground where they are left to slowly die in pain. Puratone supplies pork to some of Canada’s largest grocery store chains including Sobeys, Superstore and Loblaws, Metro, and Walmart.
