Genesis Awards Nominees

Yesterday, the Humane Society of the United States announced the nominations for its 26th annual Genesis Awards, taking place on March 24 in Beverly Hills, and airing as a one-hour Animal Planet special in May. The star-studded event, hosted by Dancing With the Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba, is an annual celebration of the media’s most significant contributions to the animal-welfare movement, with categories ranging from best TV newsmagazine to most animal-friendly children’s programming. Martha Stewart and Oprah Winfrey’s talk shows have both been recognized for their vegan episodes, competing with 2011 Veggie Award winner Ellen DeGeneres in the best talk show category. Mainstream blockbusters Dolphin Tale, Rio, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and War Horse are all contenders for this year’s top feature film.
