If you’re a Bridgerton fan, you’ll already know that Queen Charlotte is a pivotal character. The clue is in the name: she’s the queen consort, making her one of the most influential people in the ton (excluding Lady Whistledown, of course).
But the actor who plays her, Golda Rosheuvel, is also influential in her own right. She’s a vocal advocate for veganism and has used her platform to talk about the lifestyle and her favorite plant-based businesses.

“I’ve been vegan for god … 15 years now or so. I was a vegan before it was cool to be vegan. Old school, you know,” she toldThe Outnet.
Rosheuvel follows a plant-based diet for both her health and the environment. “What we put into our bodies is a reflection of how we feel,” she told Strong Black Lead. “And if that can be a healthy way or a way that really impacts positively on our planet, I think it can be joyful.”
In 2024, Rosheuvel also took the opportunity to spotlight some of her favorite small British vegan businesses in conversation with Elle. She called out Naifs in London, for example, noting that the vegan bistro “has a unique charm” and a “warm and welcoming setting.” She also praised vegan café Pipoca, highlighting its “strong commitment to both health and the environment.”

The meat-free stars (and characters) of Bridgerton
Rosheuvel isn’t the only Bridgerton star who follows a plant-based lifestyle. Claudia Jessie, who plays Eloise Bridgerton on the hit Netflix show, is also a passionate vegan.
“I went vegan seven years ago. I haven’t shopped on the high street for about six years, because I will not contribute to fast fashion. And ever since I was 22, I’ve volunteered every Christmas at a homeless shelter,” she told the Big Issue in 2022.
“I always think, do you reckon one day in the future we’ll be like, ‘Do you know that people used to just walk past people on the street?’” she continued. “‘Do you believe they used to batter animals and put them in between bread?’”
The show itself has also included depictions of a plant-based lifestyle. Season three’s Lord Debling, played by Sam Phillips, is a committed animal lover and conservationist, declaring that he has “forgone eating the flesh of dead animals, and they barely tolerate me for that great sin.”

Could Eloise and Queen Charlotte ever join the club? It isn’t likely. Vegetarianism was no easy feat in meat-loving, hunting-obsessed Regency England.
Dearest gentle reader—aren’t you glad it’s 2026, with vegan meat, dairy-free milk, and plant-based staples so readily at hand?
