Researchers are building a meat- and dairy-free menu for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s mission to Mars, scheduled for the 2030s. Researchers are planning a food regimen that will keep the crew physically and mentally healthy for the duration of their two and a half year galactic expedition using fresh vegetables and few or no animal products. One of the dishes in talks include a cheeseless Thai pizza covered in vegetables, peanuts, and a spicy homemade sauce. NASA scientists hope to offer the astronauts a “Martian greenhouse” so that there is plenty of fresh produce available to keep the crew fit and nourished while they are away.
