Leading hot-dog chain Wienerschnitzel has announced its interest in discontinuing the use of gestation crates by 2022. The company says that it will only buy from suppliers that are dedicated to eliminating the cruel crates over the next 10 years. Wienerschnitzel joins fellow food companies including Harris Teeter Supermarkets, Costco, Safeway, Kroger, McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King, and Subway in relinquishing the use of gestation crates. Wienerschnitzel, which is a part of the Galardi Group, serves more than 120 million hot dogs per year.
