Kimatni D. Rawlins, a 39-year-old, ex-college football player recently wrote a piece for US News & World Report about his healthful journey from a couch potato to a vegan marathon runner. Rawlins says that practicing healthful habits, such as eating a plant-based diet, staying active, and abstaining from detrimental vices, were essential for improving his quality of life. “I used to work hard and party harder,” he says. “Now I work hard and workout harder while operating alcohol-free, meat-free, dairy-free, and sugar-free!” Since going vegan, and kickstarting an intense fitness regimen, Rawlins has lost 50 pounds and can bench press just as much now at nearly 40 years old as he could during his college football years. He urged readers to follow his example and ditch the unhealthy habits so that they too could prevent disease and live a life of longevity.
