A recent salmonella outbreak that has affected 320 people in 20 states is being linked to raw chicken processed by food company, Foster Farms. According to NBC news, approximately 42 percent of the people who got sick from the chicken had to be hospitalized, and despite the high levels of disease, Foster Farms has not issued any recalls. “From a business standpoint, it sends a tremendously bad message to your customers,” says food safety expert Craig Hedberg to NBC News. “They obviously have this strain present in their chickens and they’re not adequately controlling it in their plants and it’s getting out to customers.” Another salmonella outbreak was linked to Foster Farms earlier this year when 134 people in 13 states were reported sick from January to July.
