The Humane Society of the United States is fighting back against the cruel practices of agribusiness in North Carolina and all throughout the United States by forming an advisory board in the Southern state comprised of family farmers and ranchers. The group will promote farms that adhere to animal-welfare standards, seek out market opportunities so these independent and ethical businesses can thrive, and try to increase the number of independent family farmers in the area. The North Carolina Agriculture Council is not the first HSUS organization of this kind; Iowa, Nebraska, and Colorado also have independent agriculture groups that seek to bring animal interests back to the business.
