Emily Deschanel, the star of Fox’s hit television series Bones, collaborated with The Humane Society of the United States on a video to educate the public on the fishing industry’s looming threat on marine life. During the video, Deschanel rattles off alarming statistics, including that six of the seven marine turtle species are threatened with extinction, 10,000 whales have been killed in the past decade, and more than 300,000 dolphins, porpoises, and whales drown every year due to fishing gear. The video was released to coincide with Humane Society International and HSUS’ efforts to rally support for greater protection of marine species during this week’s Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species meetings, where 178 countries deliberate on marine regulations and international trade stipulations.
