If you’re a vegetarian with a passion for writing and have always wanted to see your high school cafeteria go meatless on Mondays, enter The Humane Society of the United States, essay competition. Each student contestant will pen a 500- to 800-word essay on how eliminating meat on Mondays is an eco-friendly way to help animals and people. Vegan superstars such as New York Times best-selling author Rory Freedman, VegNews Editorial Director Elizabeth Castoria, and Kristie Middleton of HSUS farm animal protection department will judge the competition. Winners will receive a MUTTS comic strip autographed by the artist Patrick McDonnell, a copy of The Bond signed by author and HSUS CEO Wayne Pacelle, a HSUS t-shirt, and organic chocolate.
