The Fifth Annual US VegWeek is Only Weeks Away

Cooking demos, bake sales, and restaurant specials are some of the things that Americans have to look forward to throughout meat-free week in April.

US VegWeek, a national campaign started in 2009, that encourages people across the country to abstain from eating meat. Set to kick off on April 22, federal and state politicians such as Texas Congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, Arizona Congressman Raúl Grijalva, and California State Senator Ted Lieu are expected to participate, while whole jurisdictions from Tucson, AZ to Montgomery County, MD are encouraging their residents to go vegetarian for the week. “No matter what you believe in, respect for animals is an important part of being human,” says Grijalva. “I’m proud to participate in US VegWeek to raise awareness.” Restaurants across the country will be making unique additions to their menu to mark the occasion.
