McDonald’s has announced that starting the end of the April, all of its UK locations will move to source humane pork. Dubbed Freedom Food Pork, the pork is raised on farms that have met the strict animal-welfare standards set by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals; only about a third of UK pig farmers meet RSPCA’s standards. “Not only will our move to Freedom Food pork make it easier for people to make affordable, ethical choices on the high street, we hope that more of Britain’s pig producers will have the confidence to invest in the future and adopt the RSPCA’s higher welfare standards on their farms,” McDonald’s vice president of the UK supply chain Warren Anderson says.
