The Southern California-based company Beyond Meat was recently spotlighted on the Today show blog for its vegan chicken. The blog post on Today Food encourages everyone to sample some of Beyond Meat’s soy and pea-protein chicken, declaring that it indeed tastes like real chicken. The meat-free substitute is gluten-free, and even managed to fool The New York Times food writer Mark Bittman, who failed to discern Beyond Meat’s chicken from traditional poultry in a blind taste test. The vegan Chicken-Free Strips will be sold in natural food stores across the US starting this month and come in three flavors: Grilled, Lightly Seasoned, and Southwest-Style.
